Q: does any part the system pass waterthrough filter containing copper? does this potentially allow copper levels to raise? Eco filter brand adds 6x copper cuz it passes through filter containing copper.

submitted by spring clean - 1 year ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. No part of the LifeStraw Home system—including the membrane or carbon filters—passes water through any component made of or containing copper. As a result, the filtration process does not introduce copper into the water. In fact, the activated carbon and ion exchange resin used in our filters are designed to reduce heavy metals, including copper, if present in the source water. I hope this helps answer your question!

Q: Do the unopened cartridges dry out after how many months in storage?Do cartridges fit all your pitchers & counter top models? doesn't bacteria build up if you do not refrigerate pitcher after filling?

submitted by spring clean - 1 year ago
  • A: Hello! Thank you for your questions. I hope I can help clarify. Shelf Life of Unopened Filters: Our carbon + ion exchange filters do not have a shelf life if left unopened and stored in a cool, dry place. Filter Compatibility: The carbon + ion exchange filter is compatible with all LifeStraw Home models, including glass and BPA-free plastic pitchers and dispensers. It’s a universal fit across our countertop-style products. Bacteria Buildup Without Refrigeration: Once the pitcher is filled, we recommend using the filtered water within 24–48 hours if it's kept at room temperature. Refrigeration helps slow any potential bacterial growth, especially in warmer environments. If not refrigerated, we suggest refreshing the water daily for best taste and safety. Let us know if you need help with anything else.

Q: Can these filters be left to dry out and then beginning to use quite a time later- like 3 weeks? Or do these filters need to remain in use (wet) continuously?

submitted by Lisa - 3 years ago
  • A: For durations less than a couple of months they can be dried out and stored in a sealable, airtight container or bag. If you're going to be storing this for more than two months we recommend replacing the carbon filter when your resume use.

    Good value

Better price than the subscription, less carbon emissions to get it over to you, and it’s always ready when you need it.

    Not the same

The filtered water is not as clean as with the previous filters. I don't know if our water has more chemicals in it than before.

    One thing to suggest

I’m very satisfied with your replacement filter overall, but there is one thing that could be improved. It’s not clear how the filter should be stored if I’m going to be away from home for several weeks or longer and want to use it again afterward. It would be helpful if you could provide clear guidance on the proper way to store the filter during extended periods of non-use.

    Glass counter pitcher

I like it and how much it filters the water. I do wish it could filter faster, hard to keep enough water on hand just for one person.

Great design but function hampers real success in my home.

The product is very good looking. The issue is the time it takes to filter water (even after a few weeks). Also, the chamber that holds water to process will spill if any water in there. So in essence, I'm getting maybe a glass or two per day, waiting for water to process and then refill. I was hoping to use for a dinner party but needed to start planning the day before and place water in a second container. Maybe it should come with a second container for processed/filtered water that has completed. Water when it's filtered tastes good. The function is not easy though.

    Life straw membrane

This is honestly the pure cleanest water I have ever tasted! I truly love it! The only thing that is a bit unsatisfactory is the time it takes for the water to filter. I find that it is like droplets instead of a steady stream, which is inconvenient as it does take a long time for water to filter other than that it is great.

    Useless Water Pitcher Filters

I ordered the extra filters for a dangerous thin glass 7-Cup Filter Pitcher. Since the rim of the poorly designed and extremely tight plastic filter housing broke during setup, the filters are now useless. I followed setup instructions and used no tools to insert and remove the housing, just bare hands. Complaints have been posted online by others about the pitcher shattering due to the tight fit of the plastic filter housing. It is not safe and I want a refund for my entire purchase, not a replacement or a gift card. The pitcher was a total fail.

    Very slow filtering

After about a month of using the new glass water filter, it’s still only filtering the water at a very slow drip. The previous two or three glass filters I had filtered the water 3-4 times faster. I’m not sure what’s causing the difference, but it’s pretty inconvenient. Could you let me know why this might be happening and if there’s anything I can do to improve the flow?

    Yay (but the color…)

We are happy with the product overall. Love that it is glass, not plastic. Appreciated that the instructions warned us of the slow filtering process to start. We are disappointed that our first choices of colors were unavailable so we are stuck with a color neither me nor my husband are crazy about. Otherwise, so far, the product itself is great.

    Works Perfectly Now

Originally the dispenser we purchased was missing the crucial front piece that actually stopped the water from coming out. I reached out to LifeStraw, asking for a replacement part to be supplied, and after some back and forth about the issue they informed me they could not send the part; however, they would send me a new dispenser at no charge. Despite it being free in the end, I would still say positive things. I don’t like my water to have flavor and this dispenser achieves that. I am drinking triple the amount of water I used to and my family also likes it. It does take up 1/2 a shelf in our side-by-side fridge, but for us that was an okay trade. Get it if you like a dispenser.

    Dispenser

I like how big the dispenser is. The only thing I don’t like is that it drips. I have to keep a paper towel under it. That’s the only negative for me.

    Great tasting water

I love the taste of the water. The glass pitcher is beautiful and easy to use. It is a perfect size for me, since I live alone, and fits on my refrigerator shelf. I am happy with my purchase.

    Clean Water Confident

Installation was easy and the filters are processing water at a faster rate than the original filters did. We use our LifeStraw 35-cup pitcher for one month each year while vacationing at our cabin. It will be months before using the LifeStraw again. We found 3 different sets of directions for storage of the filters; one set with original pitcher purchase, another with filters, and a third online on your website. This was a bit confusing. We opted to discard the the charcoal filter, use the bleach water soak then rinse the other filter and then store it in the saline solution.

    very hard to replace

It is much too hard to replace the filters. One needs a tiny and very strong hand to get the old filter out - and the new filters go in crooked, then you have to do it all again. As I was trying to get the filter out, I had to use a tool, as there was no way otherwise. This ended up breaking the plastic casing for the filter. Now the water filter doesn't really work. And the company will not replace the broken part. I'd have to buy a while new pitcher, which is expensive. I'd say use a different company.

    Haven't used them yet

However, I bought a water bottle also which is loaded with plastic and my granddaughter chewed the plastic straw, exposing the white part. Why put filtered water thru a plastic straw to pick up microplastics? I'm throwing it out.

    Lacking, not ADA friendly

My complaint is that the dispenser has to be held down to dispense water. You can't just flip a lever and the water comes out until you close it. This makes it very difficult to use when filling a pitcher or large glass, especially when you only have the use of one arm. Also as you push the button to dispense water the whole dispenser will begin to slide away from you. Not ADA friendly.
