Q: Is this a printer for someone who doesn't print much or will the ink dry up?

  • A: Hello Sandy and thank you for asking. Any ink jet printer, including the HP Smart Tank 5101, can suffer from dry out because ink is a liquid, and it will evaporate. To prevent this, just print something, even if it is just 1 page, every week or two. If you need to go longer than that, shut the printer down using the power switch on the printer first, before using a power strip or pulling the plug. That can keep ink from drying out on the printheads for up to 3 months.

    It gets off line so easy, it’s a big circus’s just to print anything, some times I wish I could just dump it in the trash, I like the quality of the prints and the smart thank system because I don’t get worried anymore for toners, but it’s a big problem T the time I want to print, I don’t know if it’s because 4 members of my family use it, but I limited to only one, me. I’m sorry, it’s not the first HP printer I used but I never had this problems before, that is why I’m so disappointed!

    Print quality good, paper feed not great

    I found the print quality to be good, however, the paper feed is not as smooth as it should be and stalls/jams if I’m not monitoring the print job.

    HP Tank Printer

    I like the fact that so far the tank does not dry up the ink before I use it. That right there is a big deal because I don’t use the printer a lot. I use it for printing patterns and pictures. It’s fast and very easy instructions. I love this printer.

    Was great then stopped

    It worked great when I first got it, then it stopped working so great. It doesn't connect to my Wi-Fi. I literally have to plug in my laptop to print anything, or I have to go through a secondary printing. App to print from my phone.It's supposed to tell me when I'm out of ink before.I'm out of ink when to order that app doesn't because it doesn't sink with my wifi noise, I'm also supposed to come up with up to 2 years of ink, I haven't even had it.6 months I've barely had it a month or a little over a month.Maybe , and I can't use it because it's already out of ink

    Being that only use a laptop, it was more troublesome than I expected. Having to download an app th.

    I like the idea of just filling the reservoir, instead of purchasing cartridges, but could use a cable to have a hardwired connection.

    Setup was pretty easy. I like the liquid ink refills. The drawback is that there is no tray to feed several sheets to copy and it only holds a small amount of paper in the tray.

    Not a good start

    This printer was easy to set up and the print quality was OK. Until it stopped working after a few days. Now it continually goes offline and HP support was not able to help and closed my case. I feel cheated. It shouldn't be that difficult to fix a connectivity problem.

    Easy to use. It connects to my home network easily. Makes great copies

    I ruined one of then installable print heads. I ruined what I thought was tape. It was the electrical contacts on the print head. I thought the instructions could have been better.

    Positives: Easy setup. Love the app feature. Great convenience of supplies included Negatives: Easily disconnects with Wifi drops - takes a while to reconnect. Hard to print multiple pages in a timely manner. Printed papers come out damp. Does not print front/back.

    It will only connect to 2.4GHz :( we have fiber optics 10ge (5GHz) so printer is absolutely useless. Past return option.

    Setting up the printer for a non technical person was not good. Still having problems printing.

    The inkin bottles is great, no written manual on how to set up the printer is terrible. Still can’t print without problems!

    Love this printer

    I love that the ink lasts forever and that it doesn’t cost much to buy refills. The cartridges are so expensive. The only thing I had to troubleshoot was getting reconnected once I deep dives on the web I found what I needed and learned how to reset and reconnect. But other than that this printer had been fabulous I can print right off of my phone I used this for business to make labels make flyers print off reports
