Training and throwing sets cover a range of weights. Lighter throwing sets often list balls from about 6 oz up through 12 oz, while other weighted packs offer heavier options such as 12, 14, 16 and 18 oz.

Weighted balls are used for warm-ups, strength training, and to practice throwing, pitching and swing mechanics. Some sets are intended specifically for throwing and pitching drills rather than for batting practice.

Common pack sizes range from small sets to larger multipacks. Examples include 4-ball sets, 6-ball packs, and 12-pack training balls.

Many training balls come in bright, high-visibility or neon colors so players and coaches can quickly identify different weights and track balls during drills. Some lite balls are also available in optic orange for extra visibility.

Half-weight or lite baseballs are used in training and with pitching machines to make balls easier to hit. They help younger players improve hand-eye coordination and are often offered in regulation size at about half the weight of a real baseball.

A common bat weight (donut) style is a 16 oz steel-alloy ring with a silicone, non-slip coating. These donuts are described to fit standard barrel diameters such as 2 1/4", 2 5/8" and 2 3/4".
