The inReach Mini series is water‑rated for surface exposure only (such as rain or brief immersion) and is not intended for underwater use or depth pressure. GPS and satellite communication also do not function underwater, so it would not work while diving.     Upgrade worth it

    Traded up from a 10 year old Inreach and glad I did. Much better connection speed amongst a whole host of other upgrades. I use it for motorcycle trips where cell service can be nonexistent and have appreciated the tech and safety aspect of the product (Apple has Satellite but it’s not as reliable or designed for this use case as well).

    Great Device. Small but Powerful.

    I bought this after getting the Garmin H1 Plus. I returned that unit due to software issues galore. Constant reboots, etc. and just not a good device for the money. I pivoted and got this unit to have a satellite communicator and it's awesome. I had the Mini 2 and this is a good upgrade to that device. Peace of mind when the kids go out hiking that they can at least communicate with us and I have it in the car when travelling. Overall, I like the portability of this unit. If they would upgrade the maps on this unit, I think this could be a better unit overall. Great unit and recommend it.

    Solid Upgrades

    Big upgrade from the Mini 2. The Mini 3 Plus is a little larger, but honestly, you don't notice the additional weight whatsoever when carrying it on the trail. The larger color touchscreen makes the unit much easier to use without constantly pulling out my phone and using the app, which also helps conserve my phone battery. Battery life has been excellent. On my first trip I had it powered on and tracking for about 10 hours and only used around 12% of the battery. This was in the High Sierra with heavy tree coverage, deep valleys, and high granite walls. Messaging was also noticeably improved. Messages went out quickly and replies came back quickly, even in areas where I would normally expect delays because of terrain or tree coverage. Overall, I'm very impressed with the Mini 3 Plus. The touchscreen, battery life, and reliable messaging make it a significant upgrade over my Mini 2. So far, I'm extremely happy with the performance.

    Love my Mini 3!

    I bought the inReach Mini 3 before my Camino de Santiago trip in Spain and I loved it. Since this was an endurance hike I set the reporting at 20 minutes and the battery lasted for more than a day. I sometimes used the Mini 3 for two days before charging it. The Mini 3 is very intuitive to learn and use and the weight was minimal. I clipped it to the backpack and rarely notice it was there. The Mini 3 is a marked improvement over the Mini 2, which I still own. Good job Garmin!

    Used this for the first time in the national forest where we have never had cell reception (We've camped out here for 50 years with no cell reception). It worked beautifully! It took a few minutes at times for the communication to go through, but what a relief to know we could communicate with someone back in civilization. This could make a difference between getting help to us and being in a real serious position. I don't normally give reviews for ANY product, but have been so impressed with this little gizmo. We had tried Starlink and couldn't even get it to receive in the middle of our cul de sac at home. Five stars for Garmin!

    Always accurate, Always informed!

    Bought this for solo bike packing trips into the remote wilderness of Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Canada. Has worked flawlessly and kept family and friends aware of my whereabouts and health. Also provides an opportunity for motivational messages to be received when times are really tough on trips. I purchased the Premium plan to prevent worrying about overage costs. So glad I’ve got this device with me and so are my loved ones.

    Problem with one hand emergency operation

    I bought the mini 3 plus because the family went hiking in an area with no cell service. I taught the wife and kids how to use it beyond the intuitive emergency feature. I did realize at that moment that “one hand operation in an emergency to uncover the button to uncover then push the button is difficult. If anybody actually reads this feedback then can you reach out to me and share the secret to one handed operation? Thank you. Tyler Kahdeman

    Works great, battery lasted 9 days kayaking with 5 msgs a day. having voice and photo support is great. cons: tracking setup is confusing. Having two tracking links/systems is confusing. Im still not sure if you have to have a tracking interval set AND active tracking turned on or not. At one point i had tracking on and working but later it showed everyone i was back at my starting point 100 miles away. The onscreen texting keyboard interface is virtually unusable. I have normal size fingers but the onscreen keys are just way too small to work. I found using the old school flip phone style of texting to work better, but its very slow. Setup an SMS-based AI service before you go. That way you can ask ai questions and get any info you need no matter where you are all via the inreach. Im very surprised InReach doesnt have that builtin, as it makes the device 1000x more useful.

    Happy wife!

    Definite upgrade from my ZOLEO that I used for 3 years. Connected quickly to the satellite and the ability to message straight from the device is a nice feature. My wife loves the security she feels when I’m on the trail.

    Overpriced

    The inreach is far too expensive for what it is. And the subscription service is even worse. What it amounts to is you’re paying a lot of money to have an SOS button in your pocket since all the other features are either too expensive or not useful.

    I can’t think of a more critical item of gear if you’re running or hiking off the grid. The voice feature is excellent and doesn’t require the level of effort to send important updates like typing does.
